![]() ![]() Though Stewart has yet to make an appearance in the Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths event, this Corps reunion-including Kyle Rayner, who was absent from Oa during the Power Battery explosion and its aftermath-and the upcoming battle certainly marks the start of the Green Lantern franchise's next chapter, which hopefully includes the newly-minted Emerald Knight among the Emerald Army. This refresh for the Green Lanterns comes in large part due to John Stewart's new role as the Emerald Knight. To stop Slade Wilson, the young heroes of the DCU might have no other choice than to turn to the brutal tactics of Black Adam…"Īfter the brutal events of the most recent Green Lantern series, Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #3 promises both a return to form for the Corps as well as a new status quo with the name Emerald Army. "THE BATTLE OF THE EMERALD ARMY HAS BEGUN! Hal Jordan has launched all-out war on Pariah and the Dark Army to avenge his fallen Justice League teammates-but how can one man stand in the way of the Great Darkness? Meanwhile back on Earth, Titans Tower has burned and Deathstroke’s army has continued its scorched-earth march across the planet. The cover of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #3 shows Hal-with a Justice League constructed by his ring-ready for battle, and the cover's text promises readers " The Battle of the Emerald Army." The issue's summary reads: Hal then reveals his "back-up:" what appears to be much of the Green Lantern Corps, from Guy Gardener to Kilowog. In the final pages of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #2 by Joshua Williamson, Daniel Sampere, Alejandro Sánchez, and Tom Napolitano, Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and Jo Mullein reunite with Kyler Rayner. Regardless, seeing the evil Green Lantern flex on Hal Jordan with a brutally improved fist construct is certainly entertaining in this new issue from DC Comics.Related: ‘Dark Crisis' Already Brings Back Its First Dead Hero Now, the issue's end sees Emerald Knight working with Waller to end Rick Flag's Suicide Squad who's looking to arrest the Task Force X director and bring her back home to Earth-0. While the Emerald Knight certainly thinks at first that Waller's invasion is all fun and games, those feelings end after he encounters the Black Hand who forces him into submission. As such, a giant fist/monster truck hybrid is probably on the tamer side of what this evil John Stewart is capable of. While the Green Lantern Corps generally seeks more nonlethal means of keeping the galaxy safe, that's clearly not the case for the Emeralds Knights and their Overlords of Oa, as they're known on Earth-3. However, his "Monster Punch" is brutally effective as it runs over and completely flattens the Emerald Knight's foes. While the Emerald Knight's ring can talk to him, the only thing it has to share is its embarrassment by Stewart's constructs. He even riffs on Hal Jordan's classic construct of a giant fist, giving his own version monster truck wheels as it tears through the battlefield. As a result, this dark version of Stewart is having a blast maiming and killing Waller's team. As such, War for Earth-3 #1 sees the evil counterpart to John Stewart known as the Emerald Knight fighting as the first line of defense against Waller's agents. Involving two Suicide Squads, the Teen Titans, and Earth-3's dark version of the Justice League known as the Crime Syndicate, it's a massive brawl for the ages to determine the fate of this alternate world in the DC Multiverse. Coming from Robbie Thompson, Dennis Hopeless, Steve Pugh, Dexter Soy, and Brent Peeples, War for Earth-3 is the culmination of Director Amanda Waller's plans that were teased during DC's title-wide Future State event.
